Last night and today are Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel Independence Day!

We are 71 years old!

Despite many attempts to destroy us, we have and continue not only to survive, but to thrive.

I'm proud of my small nation.

On Yom HaAtzmaut our yishuv celebrates with an outdoor festival, and open market. Most of what is sold is junk toys and food, but my daughter set up a booth and offered her paintings.

And two of her paintings sold! One a picture of two foxes, and the other a picture of a horse. Both went for their asking price.

My journal page was full of glee. SHE SOLD TWO PICTURES!

And I am rightfully proud. Proud of the effort my daughter put into her paintings, proud of her determination to go up there and sell despite the fact that she is, at age 25, incredibly shy.

And I boasted to friends, family, and the world.

I also marked it in my journal. That is a page I will want to keep, and press into a memory book. If someday her paintings sell everywhere, and she becomes well known, or at least known, I will have marked the day her career began.

What makes you proud? Is it something you have done yourself? A family member? A friend?

Write about it, say what it is and why you are smiling now thinking about it. Write about it and decorate the page.

You are going to want to save that.
